Lares Valley 3D/2N

Tour Highlights

Lares Valley

In the past, this place was surrounded by snow-capped mountains. However, they began to melt, forming small lagoons. Then these lagoons overflowed and the mountains around them began to have landslides. In this way, a high, flat rocky area was created, to which the zone’s inhabitants adapted for survival. They made small rock fences throughout the rocky area, calling them “Cancha Cancha” (fences). Here we will be able to see three mountain lagoons where this process began.

ITINERARY

Day 01: Cusco – Huaran – Cancha Cancha.

We will leave Cusco by bus, following a route through the Sacred Valley until we reach the District of Huaran (2,850 meters above sea level), where our tour begins. Here we will be able to see several crops, such as fruit trees. We will have a snack in Somacpampa, having hiked about two hours to reach the place. We will continue our hike upwards to the small town of Cancha Cancha (3,900 meters above sea level). We will see various plant species and beautiful waterfalls, and this is where we will set up our first campsite.

Day 02: Cancha Cancha – Queñococha.

We will leave very early, heading toward Queñococha. We will see two beautiful lagoons near the small town of Acopat. Then we will head toward the highest part, the Pachacuteq mountain pass, which lies more than 4,600 meters above sea level, with a climb of about two hours. Then we will descend to the Candarian mountain pass and see a lagoon that has the same name. We will descend even more as we move on to Qollalay, where we will rest. Continuing our trip, we will pass through Quishuarani, which is a small farming village. We will continue our hike upwards and arrive at Queñococha (4,100 meters above sea level), where we will set up our second campsite.

Day 03: Queñococha – Lares.

This day, we’ll go to the Lares Hot Springs, but before we will climb up to the last mountain pass, Cuncani. From there, you can make out the two most beautiful lagoons on this journey: the Wiki Cocha and Azul Cocha Lagoons. We will go toward the face of snow-capped Qolquechacana and the Awayman Waterfall and then descend to the small town of Cuncani, which has a river for trout fishing. Then we will hike approximately four hours before finally arriving at the Lares Hot Springs. There we will have a snack and take a comfortable dip in the hot springs before returning to the city of Cusco.
